Technical Specifications

The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center features a state-of-the-art Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts. Carpentry

  • Seating: 522 fixed, continental-style seats; main floor lower orchestra: 221 fixed seats; rear orchestra: 111 stadium-style fixed seats; rear balcony: 98 fixed seats; side upper mezzanines: 92 fixed seats.
  • Handicap seating: main floor: 6 permanent wheelchair positions house left; 8 seats house center rear can be removed for 6 additional wheelchair positions or technical setup.
  • Stage Dimensions (also see drawings): Proscenium 45'w x 20'h; Stage is 38' deep, apron below plaster line is 4'6" to pit edge, raised pit surface extends apron an additional 6'-3".
  • Wing space: 14' SR and 17' SL.
  • Grid height: 48' to bottom of grid.
  • Stage height: 3'2" above seating floor.
  • Stage floor: Fully sprung Plyron (masonite laminated plywood) floor, painted black and in excellent condition. There are 5 traps (4x8) on the stage. All fasteners into the stage floor must be pre-approved before installation and there is a $5 per hole fill charge.
  • Grand Drape: color: eggplant, guillotine or traverse, traveler cord located SR, line set 2.
  • Grand Teaser: color: eggplant, adjustable trim, line set 1.
  • Legs: 4 pair, black velour, 12' wide x 26' high, no fullness.
  • Borders: 4 black velour, 54' wide x 8' high, no fullness.
  • Traveler: black velour, sewn fullness, actuated SR, line set 26.
  • Cyc: White, 54' wide x 24' high; excellent condition.
  • Movie Screen: no permanent screen; can rent to suit.

  • Storage: Some items can be stored in upstage storage; additional storage in basement under stage. Note: this area is mainly the Sondheim Center storage area for equipment. (piano, lighting equipment, etc.).

  • Power: Located on stage rear left wall. 1 - 200A service, 120/208V, 3-phase. Service terminates with lugs. A licensed electrician must connect/disconnect pigtails, 14-day prior notice is required.
  • Dimmers: 236 - 2.4 kW Strand Series C21 Dimmers.
  • Control System: ETC Expression 3 located in light booth at rear of upper orchestra seating.
  • House Light Control: Strand. Controls located at SM Station (SR), box office, and technical booth manual control.

  • All sound system power is from a dedicated transformer with a true single-point technical (isolation) ground to minimize hum.
  • Stage Audio Lines (to house patchbay): SL proscenium wall: 8 XLR input lines, 4 XLR output lines; 6 XLR input wall box, SL proscenium wall: 6 XLR inputs; upstage right: 6 XLR inputs, 2 XLR outputs; upstage left: 6 XLR inputs, 2 XLR outputs; Four (4) floor pockets (SR, SL, US Center, DS Center) each containing 4 XLR inputs, 1 XLR output, and 1 20A 110V duplex outlet.   • Fixed Speaker System: Stereo System - main L/R consists of 8 (4 per channel) flown JBL VRX032LA line arrays and 2 (1 per channel) JBL VRX918S subwoofers on each side of proscenium; 2 delayed pairs of JBL MS-26 provide excellent coverage to under mezzanine areas; 3 delayed JBL MS-26 for front fill (mounted in orchestra pit wall).
  • Amplification: 1 Crown XTi 4000 (subwoofers), 6 Crown XTi 2000 (line arrays), 2 Crown CTs 1200 (fills).
  • Portable Speakers: Stage Monitoring from house console only. We DO NOT have a separate monitor console. Several XLR return circuits are located around stage; 4 stereo (8-mono) patchable line-level circuits stage left. Powered monitor speakers: 2 Mackie SRM450, 2 Gem PXA 252, 2 EV SxA 250, and 4 Yamaha HS80M.
  • Microphones: 21 channels Sennheiser EW100 wireless bodypacks with Audio Tecnica and Countryman headsets; 5 channels Sure SLX-4 handheld with SM58 heads; 4 SM57, 4 SM48, 8 Violet "Gold Finger" GF-124, 6 Shure MX202 area mics, 2 Shure MX418 gooseneck mics.
  • Production Communications: 4-ch. ClearCom MS-440 system. Service to dressing rooms, make-up, green room, orchestra pit, fly rail, spot locations, loading gallery, tech booth (3), stage manager's location, trap operator.

  • Orchestra Pit: floor measures 14'x 38' at minus 8'. Accessed through under-stage basement; stairs located on upstage wall.

    • Two - single person dressing room, located 26 and 34 paces from SL entrance door.
    • Makeup Room 20 paces from SL entrance door. One single dressing room within Makeup Room.
    • Green Room 20 paces to SL Entrance Door.
    • All rooms have showers, sinks, standard toilets and lighted mirrors.
  • Wardrobe Area: Located between the two large dressing rooms.
  • Washer and Dryer: 1 set, Dexter commercial-type.
